Bartley Riding Academy
This Academy teaches good basic skills to give all riders the best possible start to their riding, whether it is for pleasure riding or for competition. The Bartley Riding Academy teaches dressage riding and show jumping as well as the safety aspect needed to ride horses in any situation. They have a range of ponies and horses to suit the rider’s requirements from beginners to advanced, or the rider can bring along their own mount.
To be part of the riding academy you need no previous riding skills or horse interaction. Girls and boys can start from 8 – 9 years of age and there are group or private lessons for both children and adults.
Lessons for children are run during the school term (usually 10 x lessons per term), on weekdays and Saturdays. Each lesson takes one hour – ¾ hour of riding time and ¼ hour of horsemanship. They also run school holiday programmes.

St Heliers Bay Pony Club
The Club is affiliated to NZPCA and is part of the Auckland Area district. Their facilities include 14 paddocks, a jumping arena, two riding arenas, a cross country course, modern stables and yard complex with equipment sheds. During summer months, the Pony Club has approximately 20 rallies (Wednesday evenings), with 4 of those being internal events (Club competition days).
The club offers a Riders Without Horses programme for those who want to learn more about horses, but do not have a pony/horse. These are incorporated in the Rallies during the season. All other members need to own a horse and usually graze them on Club grounds. Members range in ages from around 10 – 25 years old.
